When
we first started CD's had only just been mentioned on tomorrow's
world and every DJ used record decks with belt drive turntables.
Although professional Disco equipment was considerable more
expensive in the 70s than today it was nothing like as reliable.
However Disco dancers seemed less fussy in the 1970s and
were quite used to dancing to the sound of the odd scratched
record. Sometimes in hot and humid club conditions the drive
belt on the turntables could slip, causing the music to
slur. Dancers rarely noticed if you had to put your finger
on the record to help it remain at the correct speed. Likewise
nobody seemed to care if a record was badly scratched and
you had to put some coins on the needle arm to stop it jumping.
Oil wheel projectors and fuzz lights helped to provide the
light show and you could fit a whole Mobile Disco road show
on the back seat of your mums ford escort.
The
70’s saw the advent of punk and Glam rock, but its Disco
dance music that has remained by far the most popular 70’s
music. Acts like Rolls Royce, Gloria Gaynor, Boney
M and Abba can still fill the dance floors at a Wedding
party today.
Although
the Disco equipment has improved considerably since the
70s, many would say the music
has never been bettered. 70's Disco music seems as popular
today as it was back then. If you are planning to host a
